Adding cities

You can have as many cities as you like listed to compare. Tap + to add a city. From the Add A City screen, start typing the name of the city you’d like to add, then tap on its name when it appears.

Tip: you can also search for country names.

Custom cities

In the highly unlikely event that the city you’re after isn’t in our database, you can add a custom city. To do this, tap Custom from the Add A City screen, then enter the city name, country name, timezone and location as longitude and latitude.

Please note: Longitude in Darkness is measured in degrees east. If you have a location that’s in degrees west, you’ll have to place a - in front to get the correct figure for degrees east. In other words, if the location is 91°W, then Darkness will require you to type in -91. If you see 303°E, then typing in 303 will give you the correct position. This is called “planetocentric longitude”.

Latitude in Darkness is measured a similar way to longitude. 90°N should be entered as 90. 90°S should be entered as -90.

If you’d like the city to be added to Darkness in the next release, then check the “Send this city to Bjango so it can be included in future versions” option. This will send us the details you’ve just entered when you tap Save.

Tap Save when you’re done.

Editing custom cities

To edit a custom city you’ve added, tap Edit while on the main Darkness screen, then tap Edit on the custom city you’d like to edit. Non-custom cites can’t be edited.

Deleting cities and editing the city order

To delete a city from the list, tap Edit then the (-) icon next to the city you’d like to delete, then Delete. Reordering cities can be done with the handle on the right hand side of the city name when in the edit mode.

Tip: you can also swipe from left to right then tap Delete to remove a city.

When you’ve finished editing, tap Done.

Adding the “Current Location (GPS Based)” item

Tap + to add a city, then tap Current Location (GPS Based) to add a special city item that tracks your GPS position. This gives you highly accurate sunrise, sunset and other information for your exact location. If you already have the “Current Location (GPS Based)” item added, then you won’t see it on the Add A City screen (you can only have one “Current Location (GPS Based)” item).

Please note that the iPod touch does not have A-GPS—it can only use Wi-Fi access points around you to determine your location. If you’re not near any access points that are registered with Skyhooks (the service the iPod and iPhone use for Wi-Fi location tracking), then Darkness will not be able to determine your current location.

If that’s the case, then you can manually add a custom city for your exact location.

Adding the “Moon Phase” item

Tap + to add a city, then tap Moon Phase to add a special item with moon phase and other info. If you already have the “Moon Phase” item added, then you won’t see it on the Add A City screen (you can only have one “Moon Phase” item).

Please read the Moon details help document for more information.
