iStat Server for Mac OS X

iStat Server for Mac OS X can be downloaded from bjango.com/apps/istat/. To install, double click the iStat Server Installer icon, then click install.

The iStat Server Process will continue running even when the iStat Server application is closed, so you don’t need to keep it open to see stats on your iPhone.

Please note that iStat Server requires Mac OS X 10.4 Client or newer, or Mac OS X 10.4 Server or newer.

A bug in iStat 1.0 might cause issues connecting iStat to your Mac running iStat Server—iPhones and iPods with names with two-byte characters in them can not connect (â, ø, etc). Renaming your iPhone or iPod to only contain a combination of a-z and 0-9 should fix the issue. This bug has been addressed in iStat 1.1.

Instructions for setting up iStat and iStat Server using TCP/IP

  • Buy and install iStat on your iPhone
  • Install iStat Server on your Mac
  • Open iStat Server and take note of the passcode
  • Set up port forwarding on your router so that traffic can get to iStat Server from the internet
  • Ensure you have allowed the correct port or allowed the iStat Server application if you’re using a firewall (more instructions on this can be found in our Firewalls and iStat help doc)
  • Open iStat on your iPhone
  • Tap + to add a new server
  • Enter your Mac’s external IP address. You can find this out by viewing a website like this.
  • Tap Save
  • Tap the server’s name in the Remote Servers list
  • Enter the passcode

Please note that most problems with TCP/IP iStat monitoring occur because the router or firewall haven’t been configured properly. It’s beyond the scope of our help documentation to assist setting up your router—please refer to the documentation that came with your router.

Passcode

The passcode is the 5 digit number displayed in the middle of the iStat Server window. This is needed when connecting an iPhone to your Mac or Mac server—the iStat iPhone app will ask for this number.

New Passcode

Clicking New Passcode will create a new passcode. Please note that this will not reset previous authorizations and iPhones that have previously connected to iStat Server won’t need to enter the new passcode. If you’d like to reset authorizations as well, then click Reset Authorizations.

Lock Passcode

Clicking Lock Passcode will change the passcode display to dashes, making it unviewable until it’s unlocked again.

Reset Authorizations

Clicking Reset Authorizations resets all authorizations, meaning any iPhones that try to connect will need to re-enter the passcode.

Show Log

Clicking Show Log will open the connection log, allowing you to see information about the previous connections and connection attempts to iStat Server.

Changing port

To change the port iStat Server uses, choose File > Change Port.

Uninstalling iStat Server

To uninstall, choose Uninstall iStat Server from the iStat Server menu while running iStat Server.

  • Right click or control-click on the iStat Server Installer icon and choose Show Package Contents
