Why is iStat Menus 4 a paid upgrade?

We want iStat Menus to continue to be the best and most detailed monitoring tool on macOS. iStat Menus 4 is a major update which adds many new features. It’s an update that has taken many long days over many months.

Even when we’re not adding new features to iStat Menus, general maintenance requires a lot of money and effort — to add support for sensors and features in new Mac models, we typically have to purchase at least one of each model, for each generation that is released.

iStat Menus 3 was released 22 Apr 2010 and saw twenty updates over its entire lifespan. Many of those updates added new features. The latest version, 3.27, is a very mature and stable application that will serve you well, should you decide to not upgrade.
