Getting started with Skala Preview

Skala Preview is the fastest way to send pixel perfect, colour perfect, uncompressed images from your Mac to your iOS or Android devices. Seeing your design in situ is the best way to ensure colour, contrast and element sizes are optimal.

USB or Wi-Fi #

If you’re using an iOS device, the fastest and most reliable way to send is by plugging in your device to your Mac via a USB cable.

If you’re using an Android device, or would prefer to use Wi-Fi to send, please ensure your device and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network, and that all required ports are open for Bonjour to work.

Connecting Skala Preview and Skala View #

To connect and start previewing images from your Mac, launch Skala Preview on your Mac and Skala View on your iOS or Android devices. Then, tap the computer icon in Skala View to see the list of available computers. Your Mac and mobile device will need to be on the same Wi-Fi network to see each other.

Once Skala Preview and Skala View have found each other, you’ll be prompted to approve the connection. This happens once for each device connected (and only via Wi-Fi). To remove previous authorizations, choose Reset All Authorizations from the Settings menu. Doing so will mean connecting devices will have to be approved again.

Sending images in realtime with Photoshop #

This is awesome. If you use Photoshop, then this is the method we recommend using. For instructions on how to set this up, please read Skala Preview and Photoshop.

Sending image files #

With Skala Preview and Skala View connected, drag images to the Skala Preview window or Dock icon on your Mac, and they’ll appear on Skala View on your iOS or Android device. A huge range of image formats are supported, including PNG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, TGA and some PSDs.

When you overwrite the file, the updated version will be sent.

Sending images via the clipboard #

With Skala Preview and Skala View connected, you can copy images to the clipboard to send to your iOS or Android device. Three settings for under the Transfer menu control how clipboard sending behaves.

Different design tools #

Skala Preview works well with most of the popular design tools. Some differences do apply though, so please read more about your editor of choice via the links below.

Colour blindness testing #

To preview your design as it is seen by those who are colour blind, simply tap on the glasses icon in Skala View, then tap the colour blindness type you’d like applied. All the major colour blindness types are supported, including protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia and monochrome.

To disable colour blindness testing, select Full Colour, or tap the sash in the top right hand corner of the screen.
