Reality Distortion

Reality Distortion analyzes the frequency response of incoming audio and recreates it with up to 64 oscillators. Those oscillators can be pitched up, pitched down, or messed up in a variety of ways.

It’s a creative tool to explore a wide landscape of sonic possibilities. Mix a little of it under the original for thickness and shimmer, or turn it up and leave reality behind entirely.

Feedback, slice, and blur

Feedback sends the oscillators back into the analyzer, so it starts resynthesizing its own output. Tones sustain and wander off on their own long after the source audio has stopped.

Slice sets how often the analysis runs, from a near-continuous 10ms to a sluggish one second. Blur decides whether the oscillators snap to new pitches or glide there. Together they turn faithful tracking into stepping, smearing, or slow-motion melting.

Oscillators

Once audio is just a pile of oscillators, you can do things to it that you can't do to a recording. If all 64 oscillators are used, the result will be altered, but recognisable.

Turn the note dial up a little, add a touch of feedback, and spiral out of control. Drop to a single oscillator for one lonely tone chasing your track around. Blend between sawtooth, square, and sine waveforms via the morph pad.

Requirements

Reality Distortion is an audio plugin. It is available as an Audio Unit version 3 and VST3 plugin for macOS and Windows.

Reality Distortion works with a wide range of audio apps. We have setup guides for Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reaper, and Bitwig.
